-Below is the full interview- (it's so weird having my full name and location in a magazine, and now over the internet) As a side note, if you read the magazine article, I started sculpting with polymer clay in 2007. I graduated high school in 2002. Not that I mind being perceived as younger than I am._________________________________________________________
What is your full name? Tamara Bostan
Where are you located?Manchester, CT
How long have you been crafting?I've been sculpting with polymer clay since I discovered it in 2007. I took art and pottery classes in High school way back when and even before that, I'd make little clay creatures when I was a kid.
How long have you been doing games-inspired crafts?Starting around 2007. Pretty much since I started crafting with polymer clay. Kirby and Yoshi were my first game inspired crafts. I figured if I'm gonna learn to sculpt, I might as well start with something I like.
I saw your figure is pretty small, like three inches. Why did you choose to make it so small?Because I have a masochistic streak in me. Haha, not really. It actually came about when someone on DeviantArt contacted me a while ago to see if I'd be willing to do a figure commission for them. I didn't have any set prices or figure styles at the time, so I gave the person the option of 2 different figure types. One was a bit larger and the other was a Gashapon or Trading Figure type. They tend to run small, around 3-4 inches. After I made hers, other Deviants were interested in that same style of figure. I decided to make the Lucca figure so small as a challenge for myself. I wanted to see if I could make a well know character in that style and still keep her well done and recognizable.
What materials did you use? I used a copper wire armature, polymer clay, copper wire for her antenna, microphone and glasses, epoxy putty, and acrylic paints.
How long did this take you to make?I worked on her on and off when I felt like it. Generally my figures can take a few weeks to a month or two to make.
I also saw it is intended to be part of a planned diorama. What will be in that diorama?I'm actually almost done with the diorama. I made an Ayla and Marle figure to go with it also. They will be in 65M B.C., in a jungle forest area. Ayla will be in mid-air ready to fight. Marle and Lucca will be casting Antipode. I wanted to make something a little over the top for my figures this time.
What's your favorite version of Chrono Trigger? SNES or DS?I'm not picky. I've played the SNES version more times than I can count, but I enjoy the portability and re-translation of the DS version. I like them both.
What's your favorite moment in CT?Oh gosh really? There's so many. Frog reclaiming the Masamune and going after Magus. When you get to fight Magus for the first time. The first time I saw the kingdom of Zeal (I was 11, it was amazing.) I really love the game so I could go on and on.
What do you think is the biggest misconception gamers have about CT?That it's old and outdated. That because it's not graphically up to today's standards it would diminish your playing experience. Or, that it's too awesome to handle. The latter is almost true, but I think you can handle it.
How has this piece been perceived by friends and anyone who sees it?Well I did submit it for a small contest entry and I won popular vote. I've generally received very good feedback on her, so I'm happy. My friends that also like Chrono Trigger did seem to appreciate my Lucca figure a bit. I get a lot of enjoyment when something I create makes people happy.
